Not your usual Christmas Concert! QUIRE – SAT 17 DEC at St Botolphs Church Colchester
The Journey
a story of hope in words and music
Quire – Colchester’s World Music Community Choir of over 60 voices
7.30pm Saturday 17 December 2011
St Botolph’s Church, Colchester
Tickets £10 available at Mann’s Music and on the door
“This is a viable 21st century alternative to the traditional format of the King College Cambridge Nine Lessons and Carols” says Prof Bill Tamblyn, author of this unique music and words celebration which explores the story of triumph over adversity.
Prof Bill Tamblyn has written the prose poem The Journey and the choral score which tells the story of Mary, Joseph and the Infant from the point of view of refugees – and Bill has incorporated extracts from the stories of refugees from our own time.
This is not your usual Christmas Concert. But the evening will be a one off something very special as Bill Tamblyn believes there is so much joy and celebration in the music of Palestine, interspersed with brief readings as well as embracing a wonderful selection of Quire’s World Music repertoire – as you would expect from Quire! .
The Journey is a new production in words and music by Quire, Colchester’s World Music Community Choir of over 60 voices.
Quire Music director Bill Tamblyn has devised other such dramatic words and music ‘events’ in the recent past which has received critical acclaim acclaim including
• A Concert for Obama – based on readings from the work of Obama
• The Man born to be King – (Dorothy L Sayers) and, first performed in South Woodham Ferrers,
• King Jesus (based on Robert Graves interpretation of the Trial of Jesus).
If you are intrigued and want to hear Christmas is celebrated around the World.. and you enjoy singing a carol or two – then we look forward to welcoming you to Quire’s celebration THE JOURNEY at St Botolph’s on Saturday. There will be wine and mince pies too!

ITS STRICTLY …EDWINA CURRIE!!!
Its Strictly … Edwina Currie !!!
Agent Wendy Bailey is delighted that her client former MP Edwina Currie is putting on her on dancing shoes to take part in the new series of BBC TV’s flagship family entertainment show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
‘Edwina is really excited about being in the show!’ says agent Wendy Bailey ‘We had such fun last week at the BBC, when Edwina was trying on all the glamorous glittery ball gowns. The designers were coming up with stunning design ideas and seeing what colours look best – Edwina looked fabulous in everything!’
Can Edwina dance?
‘You’ll just have to wait and see when the show starts on Saturday’ teases Wendy Bailey, who has been Edwina’s agent for the past 10 years.
How will Edwina cope with the judges?
‘I think the judges may have met their match in Edwina!’ jokes Wendy.
